Mark Allocation Strategies
2–3 Mark Questions (Definitions/Identification): Marks are awarded for precise definitions and identifying key data points. For example, defining "recession" requires linking the term to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), specify that there is negative growth of GDP or output and state the specific time requirement: over 2 consecutive quarters (6 months)
4–5 Mark Questions (Analysis/Explanation): These usually require a logical chain of reasoning or a diagram. Marks are typically split: 1 mark for defining the term, 2 marks for the diagram (labels and shifts), and 2 marks for explaining the mechanism (e.g., how the multiplier effect amplifies initial injections).
6 Mark Questions (Assessment of Evidence): You must use specific data from the text/tables to support and then challenge a statement. Usually, 3 marks are given for supporting evidence and 3 marks for identifying limitations or conflicting data in the extract.

Identify Conflicts: Note where data contradicts itself, such as a country having high economic growth but a worsening Gini coefficient, which suggests unevenly spread wealth.
C. Evaluation ("The Judgment Step")
Every 8-mark question requires a concluding judgment. Based on the sources, a strong conclusion should:
Summarize the "Depends On" Factor: For example, the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative depends on debt management, and the impact of migration depends on the skill level of the migrants.
Identify Data Gaps: Explicitly state what information is missing from the article that would allow for a conclusive answer (e.g., lack of data on income distribution or non-monetary welfare).

Sustainability and Technological Shifts: There is a heavy trend toward Electric Vehicles (EVs), green energy (nuclear vs. renewables), and how these shifts create structural unemployment while affecting government tax revenue (e.g., Saudi Arabia vs. Singapore).
